Not barbecue weather...

Gosh I was disappointed.

How I was looking forward to Deeside Dog Agility Club's 'Fun Show BBQ' on Sunday.

Can you imagine a better day out? Just imagine all those juicy sausages...

But the signs were ominous on Sunday's early morning walk...

And yes you've guessed it. The message came through shortly afterwards. "BBQ cancelled due to heavy rain".

Sigh.

At least we had enjoyed a nice ramble around the Drum Castle estate with friends M,J and K the day before.

The sun even shone for a short while. And best of all, after the walk through the woods I made a new friend in the castle courtyard café. She's called Diva. Isn't she splendid?

  1. oh how sad that the weather ruined all the fun... we had the opposite... there was such a weird muzak fest and we had rain the whole time, so we thought it will not happen... but the rain stopped and we had this weird noises the whole night... ugh...

Well Nobby, you have my sympathy for the lack of BBQ tidbits. Was it rescheduled? Meanwhile I was excited to see Diva. I very nearly had a Bernese pup before Jade appeared and won my heart. But I do reserve a spot in my heart for this breed. Hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx

  3. Oh Nobby, we're so sorry to hear that the Fun Day was cancelled. That's the trouble with the weather, you just can't trust it! It's very hot here now and outdoor doggy events would probably be cancelled. Not that there are ever any taking place - apart from all the rescues trying to find a home for all the poor abandoned dogs.
Last Friday morning, at the dog park, I met a dog exactly the same as Diva, but he/she (we never found out) seemed to prefer Carol - and she hadn't even got any treats with her!

  5. Barbecues in the rain aren't a lot of fun, Nobby, so it's good it was cancelled. Better luck next time.

  7. Sorry you missed the BBQ... I smiled when I read canceled due to heavy rain. Last night we had heavy rain, so heavy it put down 4 inches of rain in 45 minutes. have you ever seen that much at one time? I thought it would beat the shingles off the roof and the thunder/lightning was like God was standing at the top of stairs from heaven throwing lighting bolts with one hand and concrete bowling balls down the steps. it sounded the strangest we have ever heard. like 3 to 6 booms at once and then the bump bump down each step. add high winds and wow. got me out of bed until it was done... you sure had a great walk the day before and yes, Diva is gorgeous..

    1. Gail tells me that Scotland's 'heavy rain' is just drizzle compared to what you have in Florida...

  8. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH NO Nobby How dare it rain on your BBQ fun day.
I did notice it was quite wet when I watched some of King Charles' bday festivities.
You and Gail were very thankful for a walk with your friends.
Diva is indeed splendid...stunning and appropriately named. Is she a Burmese Mtn lady?
    Q&A: Kokee State Park...
Until about 10 years ago Kokee's parents went to Hawaii once a year to hike the State Parks. Turns out Kokee is their most favorite. Kokee's dad started have lots of knee problems. Over the last 5 years or so he has had both knees replaced and a shoulder repair no more hiking. Good thing Kokee's mom is a retired Physical Therapist

  10. Now that's clearly "get wet while walking" rain, if not torrential. I've been caught by surprise by rain like that on a night-time dog walk, and in SC USA, I could hear it coming!

  12. Too bad the rain ruined the party, Nobby. But at least the day before was pleasant. Your new friend is beautiful. Diva is the perfect name for her.

  13. Poor Nobby - you do look so bedraggled in the rain. Yes Diva is beautiful. As for BBQ take a lesson from Mr B's sister. She recenlty helda BBQ taht consisted of baking the food in the oven and sitting indoors at the table (Sunday Roast style), and calling it a barbeque. Not sure that qualifies - one should have smoke, and charring, and ants, and wasps, (and in Scotland midgies), and kids kicking footballs across the table loaded with bread and salads and .... (oh, and dogs swooping on dropped burgers) sorry you missed out on all that fun.
