Stonehaven, 17/11/2023
I asked Gail why she did not join these ladies, who were evidently enjoying their dip in Stonehaven harbour.
She says she does not have the physique for swimming in the North Sea at latitude 57ÂșN in mid November.
Frankly, neither do I. (Although if Gail upped the treats supply, perhaps I might?)
Jeepers Nobby that looks cold. Do people really do that or is it a clever AI picture?
ReplyDeleteGail replies: I promise, no AI on this blog. And it's not in fact that uncommon a sight in these parts!
DeleteNo, those sort of temperatures are not conducive to a pleasant dip! However those ladies do look "well padded" so perhaps they can't feel the chill.

Paca xx
Brrr! I'm glad they've got bright floats in case they're overcome and need to be rescued.
ReplyDeletewe saw this too... is it because we still have no real november weather or is it the mind of the people what changed? ;O)

ReplyDeleteWell, Nobby... There is a trio of ladies who regularly meet and do this in West Bay here... they have all the gear; sleeping bag disguised as overcoats to walk there and back, hiviz back floats, watershoes and wetsuit-style cozzies, gloves and bathing caps that look vaguely thermal. Good luck to 'em... not because of the temps, but the quality of the water! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
brrrrr and i am giggling out loud. here the swimsuits are almost non existent, the same material as one of the sleeves on the short sleeve suit. i dont' do water that is not 75 F 23 C.. i prefer 82.. bob swims as cold as our pool gets which

Those ladies are very hardy to go swimming in those temps. Our mom says that would be a no from her too!
ReplyDeleteWowsers....those are brave swimmers! We both(and Mama) shivered when we just looked at the picture!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Sunny and Rosy
I am glad there are viking in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are related somehow to polar bears or seals??
ReplyDeleteWe think you might be right!
DeleteWow! Our mom likes to swim too, but not in freezing water!
