Remembering in Aboyne

I expect you've all been wondering if Gail and I have been out and about with our friends M and J recently.

Silly you if you imagined that our 'not as young as they used to be' walking companions might have retreated indoors for the darker months!

Here we are, enjoying a  walk along the River Dee in Aboyne earlier this week.

While M was trying to photograph a noisy flock of geese,

Gail's phone camera did a rather poor job of zooming in on a group of roe deer grazing in the nearby stubble.

After these (variably successful) efforts to find suitable images for the LLB Gang's Nature Friday blog hop, we walked through the village and were pleased to notice that Aboyne's knitters have not been forgetting those killed in wars past and present.

Gail says she can't quite believe that scenes which she thought belonged in the First World War and should have been consigned to history are currently being re-enacted in Ukraine... Today we remember all those who continue to suffer in this appalling and unjustifiable conflict.

  2. What a lovely memorial - those are some very clever knitters, Nobby.
Carol agrees with Gail - it's tragic that such conflicts should still be continuing.
Glad that you had a super day out and everyone managed to get some nice photographic memories.
We have a storm overhead this morning and I'm hiding away under the desk. I don't like the thunder or lightening one bit!
    Love,
    Lindy xx

    1. Oh dear Lindy, I do hope the storm goes away soon. But in the meantime I'm sure you'll be safe under the desk in your lovely new home.
Gail and I are just back from a VERY windy (but not cold) morning walk.
      Toodle-oo!
      Nobby.

Well, Nobby... that pillar box memorial is superior! What a fantastic effort and I join the chorus of remembrance - and dismay that conflict still rages... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  7. that knitted memorial is pretty amazing to me. We are also thinking that we thought all this was behind us, but it seems humans never learn from their mistakes. Nobby you covered both nature friday and veterans remembrance day and did it well

  8. What a lovely place for a hike, Nobby. That knitted memorial is very impressive. We are sad to hear of all the tragedy in Ukraine and have our paws crossed that it will end soon.

  11. We always enjoy your beautiful pictures. What a creative memorial! We agree that what's happening in Ukraine is atrocious. One of my coworkers has close family there and she's always worried about them.

  12. Nobby, we animals know that it is in the nature of animals to fight for their ground. Humans are just animals despite what they think of themselves. Most of us do a bit of posturing and make noise to establish by agreement who wins. Humans however, with those opposable thumbs and that big brain they are so proud of, have not only the same basic instincts but also the means to make and use ever more vicious ways of clearing other humans off 'their ground'. Evolution hasn't matched their tool making ability with developments in instinct. If their wars were fought with their teeth and their fingernails they'd be all over quickly and with a lot less disruption to the continuation off all species. Imagine what kind of world we might inhabit if human military investment (time, innovation, resources) had been poured into some planetary 'good'. Paw smacks Mr T

  13. Your nature there is gorgeous.
We too thank all our veterans, and we sure hope this awful war in the Ukraine will come to an end so that peace will be part of their lives once again. And for wars to stop everywhere.
