My best self

When Gail takes me for a nice long walk in the hills with her friends, I can promise you I will display my best version of myself.

I will forget all about ball-stealing in the park, digging holes in the back lawn, shredding papers grabbed from Gail's desk and trying to bite her hand if she brings a brush or comb anywhere near my beard.

See how I am on Best Behaviour on yesterday's outing with Henry, Phil and Susan.

Near the start of the walk I wait patiently at the edge of the field with Henry, being careful not to trample the ripe barley crop.

I come immediately and fast when called as we climb up through the conifer plantation.

I pose nicely with our friends as they regroup and catch their breath from the first ascent.

I keep to the track as we process along the broad and undulating ridge.

I allow a close up photo as I sit in the heather calmly waiting for the humans to finish their sandwiches. (Variously, prawn, egg mayonnaise and bacon, and ham and tomato. Apparently.)

At the windswept summit  of Pressendye I pose nicely, again. (Gail says 'windswept' is a redundant word in this sentence, as in Scotland all summits are windswept...)

Further along, I allow Gail to ignore me to take a photo of the stunning vista.

Despite my tender years I am tough little dog with lots of stamina, so as we carried on down the hill I did not slow everyone down, and thus enabled the humans reached the Tarland Tearoom before it closed.

And finally, I trotted along without making a fuss as ever so slightly weary legs (canine and human) tramped the last mile and half back to our start point.

(For those interested, we did a slightly longer version of the Tarland Skyline Trail, beginning and ending at Henry's cottage west of the village of Tarland.)

Dear reader, I am wondering, in which situations do you exhibit the best version of yourself?

  2. Nobby, you seem to be training your humans well. Do the things you enjoy and you display the best version of yourself. The best version of this old Tigger is the one that, grudgingly, puts up with the unwanted attention of small humans. Paw smacks Mr T

Well, Nobby, I am very impressed at your taking on the hill-walking companion dog role so excellently! That last part about escorting the humans speedily downward to the tea room is pawtikyoularly impawtant! As for me... I am still working on the best version of myself! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  5. This was your most fun hike so far for me. I enjoyed every MOMENT of your hike and it looks like you did too and because you did, the humans were happy also. What A good boy you are... I am thrilled to see you are doing so well. the perfect hike and thanks for allowing that vista shot. I can see the wind was about to remove a hat on that windswept hill. I love the WORD windswept, it is a picture just reading it. I see you did get water while they ate and no treats allowed while People eat. Good Job

  6. Well done, Nobby! You kept up with the best of them, and that surely ensures that you will be able to tag along on all future walks. Glad you were able to join them at the tea-room too.
My human says she's not sure she has a best version, or if she has, she's still trying to find it!

    Love,

  8. Hi young friend, Ojo here! You are a perfect gentleman already! I am my best self when the people are eating. I am very, very careful to behave politely and wait on my mat. This is the only way that Table Scraps happen!

I can assure you the best version of myself would not be watching everybuddy eat 2 times. BOL BOL BOL I loved that photo of you sitting patiently waiting for the humans to finish their sandwiches.
I thank you so very much for the perfect poses at each of Scotland's vistas.
