Mountaineer in training

It's been very frustrating. As you know, Scotland has mountains a plenty, all begging to be climbed by a lively WFT, but until now Gail has only taken me on relatively low level walks. Some ridiculous idea about not over-straining growing limbs, apparently.

Anyway, now that I am nearly six months old and getting more robust by the day, my dear owner finally last week decided I was ready for an ascent of Millstone Hill, an elevation of just over 400 m and an old favourite of both my predecessors.

I learned that here, and I'm told this is the general rule for Scottish hills, no matter what the conditions when one leaves car car park it is always windy at the summit.

  2. Nice cooling breeze! We are envious.
You walked up on your own legs too! (I always employ F's legs for hill climbing - a benefit of my advanced age.)

  5. that is a beautiful path made from the mill stones and you look awesome with the wind in your furs. congrats on climbing that hill. the only way I could get to the top would be if we borrowed Tiggers Donkey, but on 2nd thought, we need a bigger donkey. LOVE the photo of you with the beautiful purple flowers that I think is heather. How did you get to be 1/2 year old so fast

    1. Gail says: Almost all notable Scottish hills have a 'cairn', i.e. a pile of stones, to mark the summit. The purple flowers are bell heather (Erica cinerea). The other common type of heather, Calluna vulgaris, is not in bloom quite yet.

  7. Well done, Nobby! What a beautiful walk - and such a glorious view from the top. You had ideal weather for your first attempt to tackle a higher summit. Where next, I wonder?
