So I was all safely tucked up in my kitchen crate on Friday night when I heard Gail coming down the stairs and slipping quietly (so she thought) out of the front door.
Most unusual behaviour. My owner is definitely not a night owl and, to be frank, neither am I. There was a moment of high alert, then I rested my head back on my comfy cushion and, after briefly wondering what on earth she could be up to, I went back to sleep.
In the morning Gail showed me these photos on her phone, and told me how she, along with seemingly half the population of Aberdeen, had been enjoying the natural light show at the mouth of the harbour around midnight.
Have you ever seen the Northern Lights? Or maybe heard this old favourite Aberdeen song?
well worth slipping out at midnight. we had the same phenomenon here in Florida, I had no idea until all the photos started popping up on Facebook. Florida never has Northern lights, but we did this past week and I missed it.. Glad you got your beautiful photos and got to view something I have never seen
ReplyDeleteYes, we heard that you were about to have a display of Northern Lights, Nobby. How spectacular they were and how lucky Gail was to have seen them so clearly.
ReplyDeleteCarol once went all the way to Iceland to see the lights and it was too overcast for them to show. They have never appeared in Northern Norway either when she's been there on a hunt for them, it was always too cloudy. Unless there's a real freak of nature, I don't think that they will show up here!

Paca xx
Gail had a similar experience when she went all the way to the Lofoten Islands to see the midnight sun. Or rather the midnight cloud!
DeleteI've never seen them in person - only on TV and in photos. Gorgeous pictures, Gail!
ReplyDeleteThey even reached as far south as Berkshire - not quite so bright, maybe, but it's not a competition.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is so stunning - worth the midnight trip out. It was cloudy so Lady didn't bother getting up! Lee and Phod
ReplyDeleteYou really missed out on a beautiful sight, Nobby. Thanks to Gail for venturing out to show us.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Those are beautiful!!! The Monster values her sleep and figured all the photos shared by others would be way better than she could ever capture.

ReplyDeleteWell, Nobby, like you, my head was stuck to the pillow - but for reasons best left unmentioned. All I had to do was open Grey's back door and join the crowd in the car park... but I just couldn't manage to lift myself, so totally missed out. Both nights. Sigh... I am glad Gail didn't though! hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx
The heavens have certainly put on a show for us this spring.
ReplyDeleteThere were some great photos taken on Hayling Island too but like you Nobby I was sound asleep.
ReplyDeleteOMDs NOBBY what spectacular photos. OMDs. I especially love the one with the lighthouse...I have not seen the Northern lights..sadly...but I HAVE SEEN the midnight sun in Fairbanks.
ReplyDeleteStunning photos
Thank Gail for being a night owl on this night.
Hugs Cecilia
Wow, that was an amazing night time feature in nature!!
ReplyDeleteThey were visible here, too, but the first time, I hadn't heard of it, the second night I forgot, and now its too cloudy. sheesh! Lost my chance!
So pleased you got to see the Northern lights we totally missed out on them as didn't know about it until the next day, these are awesome photos xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sight Gail witnessed....Some people saw color here in New Mexico...but the real color was where we used to live in Northern California.
ReplyDeleteEither way, Mama missed them...and like you Nobby, we would have slept through them anyway BOL

Our mom is so jealous--she traveled to Iceland and saw no lights---and it was too cloudy here on the east coast of the US to really see them. What a wonderful thing to witness!
ReplyDeleteWe are in awe of the beautiful photos ! What a wonderful thing to witness!
