Wot, no Brussels?

Do you like Brussels sprouts?

Gail does but I don't. A Sunday carvery meal with roast beef but 'no Brussels' would suit me just fine, although I do wonder if calling something a 'Brexit Special' might not be the cleverest marketing ploy in a city which voted heavily for 'remain' in the 2016 referendum.

I am still hoping that Gail will take me on holiday to Germany or Switzerland one day, like she did with my predecessor Bouncing Bertie. But she says travelling with a pet over to the Continent has got more complicated and expensive since the UK left the European Union. As has so much else.

I do believe that in some quarters my human would be labelled a 'Remoaner'.

  1. The occupants of this household are in the same camp as Gail. Barely a day goes past without a reminder of how much more expensive and inconvenient everything is.

  2. Nobby I'd never even heard of Brussels sprouts until now. Carol says she doesn't buy them as she doesn't like them and has unhappy memories of being made to sit at the dining table, as a child, until she ate them!
Someone was talking the other day about how much cheaper food is in the UK than it is in Spain. It seems that here each week every food item goes up by at least 50 cents or a euro, and the quality deteriorates. My doggy treats and food have gone up in price too!

    1. Morning Paca! This is interesting reading for all those humans in Aberdeen who tend to think that in Spain everything is perfect as it is warm and sunny and you are still in the EU!
      Toodle-oo!

Well Nobby, count me in that camp too! Though the inflation thing is not just in the UK, I fear. I have pals all over the world complaining on that score. But there is lot to be rueful about in regards the UK's pawtikular situation... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx (who is still at Macduff, having had the bestest of days at the aquarium yesterday and invited by the ladies to spend the night in their carpark! Off to Inverness now...)

Gail says the huge increase in pet passport expense is 100% Brexit!

  4. Mom will eat them if she has to but she likes cabbage and other veggies better. I don't think we're ever going to see prices return to what they were, Nobby.

  6. Nobby the pet passport situation is a complete mess and a huge money making exercise for a few people empowered under the regulations to charge for putting stamps in books and on papers belonging to faithful fur companions. We researched and researched before bringing Mr T back from Greece and still managed to run foul of regulations (twice), AND ended up having to get him a French pet passport in the end (which took half and hour and cost money but didn't require him to learn French or sing La Marseillaise)! Poor Mr T, the most British of cats, died a citizen of France. I bet many of your readers wish it was that easy to get their own French passport.

  7. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I do love Brussels sprouts...but Mr. B does not. Nobby maybe it's in the MALE DNA to not like them.
Remoaner I like that word and it could easily apply to so much now a days.

  9. We've never had Brussels sprouts because, like Paca's mom, our mom was subjected to forced eating those tasteless balls when she was a child and hates them!

  11. We love Brussels Sprouts when they are roasted! But any other way, blech! Us pups enjoy them to crunch when they are raw, and our peeps sometimes shred them like cole slaw and add a yummy dressing.

Prices here are nutzo too...'nuf said!
