Who knew that the rivalry between England and Scotland extended to debates about fairy toadstools*?
You doubt me?
Well let's consider a recent discussion on the 'Nature Talk' WhatsApp group (membership comprising Gail plus four friends in England), as seen on Gail's phone.
Her friend Helen posted this picture, taken near Southport, England.
Gail followed up with one she had taken in the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve, Scotland.
Janet, who lives in Nottingham, England, initiated a small controversy - responses by Helen, then Gail.
I am pleased to report that the discussion ended amicably with the posting of two more photos of recently spotted fungi!
*Fly agaric / Aminata muscaria (toxic to humans of course)
Happy Nature Friday! And thanks once again to our LLB Gang friends for hosting the blog hop.
Nobby, I don't think I've ever seen a mushroom growing in the wild. Recently Carol cooked some supermarket mushrooms and consulted Mr Google to see if I could have some. Apparently they a very good source of vitamins for us pups, providing they are cooked and come from a reliable source.
ReplyDeleteThe ones in your photos are probably poisonous to humans and animals, but they do look so pretty.
Love,
Paca xx

ReplyDeleteWell, Nobby, it must be said that the shrooms you and Gail found are definitely looking rather smart, but I also suspect the one down south was just older. None of us looks as fresh after passage of time! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

And I thought Red Sox and Yankee fans were rivals.
ReplyDeleteWell, no matter who does or does not have 'better' mushrooms and fungi, they are still fascinating to see and watch growing....but mostly
ReplyDeleteNOT tasting...
Dunno who has been eating those mushrooms but they look distinctly toxic - so maybe Scotland has more sensible wildlife (or less spaced out or something).
ReplyDeleteWow! You all win the mushroom competition! The only ones we see are in the store!
