Climate change dilemma

The photos above were taken on Sunday, 1st October 2023, on the cliff path overlooking Hackley Bay, NE Scotland.

And yes that is my owner Gail wearing a short-sleeved tee-shirt, and no she is not shivering, despite not having much in the way of built-in padding.

I too was plenty warm enough, even though Gail had been (very much against my wishes) stripping my furs to "keep me looking tidy" the day before.

Let me remind you that here in Aberdeen we sit at c.57ºN, which is the same latitude as the southern tip of Alaska.

We know that the climate emergency is real, and that actions by humans are in large part responsible for the accelerating changes in weather so many of us around the globe are experiencing.

But how does one persuade people living in a chilly corner of the world that it's a bad thing to be able to go for an autumn walk beside the North Sea and relax in the sunshine with one's friends without being bundled up like an Eskimo?

Well, Nobby... I have to repawt that the story is very different this side of the Bonny Land, where lashing rain and single-figure temps were the rule on Sunday! Interestingly, though, despite the continued wind and damp, the last two days have been back up around the 12/13 degrees, which one would not expect in the first week of October. 2. It is a dilemma but wishing it were otherwise does not make it so. The cold days will come soon enough. Lucky Gail 'not having much in the way of built-in padding.' That made me smile! Nobby, you do look neat and tidy and just right for a photo shoot.

  3. My first thought when your blog opened, was Wow, Nobby, you look like The Big Dog in Town.... love that photo.. you and Gail are both looking super good. T-shirts in October has to be a good thing even if it is a bad thing. I can see the dilemma, good/bad mixture. Our morning news today said the Atlantic Ocean is the hottest it has ever been, which is BAD.. to us in USA it means more hurricanes all the way until the last day of November. usually by Mid October we are safe for another year. I guess we all have to take what we get and enjoy the good parts while we can... I saw Yam had the opposite, and that is happening here too. the top is flooding, the bottom is droughting... yes we know that might not be a word... Enjoy it while you may! it looks wonderful

  4. It sure is a dilemma when those of us in the northern areas are not bothered by some extra warmth, but we know our southern friends have been suffering with super-hot temps during the summer. You all look like you were enjoying your hike.

Some places could be in the 30's.

  9. That looks a beautiful beach behind you, Nobby. It's warmer than usual here too, and only in the last hour or so has it cooled down to 24ºC. It's nice for you all to be able to enjoy such warm weather this late in the year, but sad that it isn't good for the planet.
    Love,

  10. Our mom is packing for her trip to the UK, and has to pack clothes for warm and cold because you never know these days! And it is 80+ here in Baltimore! Us huskies are not amused.

  12. We had our first ever day in October over 30C, which is scary but it was followed by 2 more. Sigh! Climate change is a thing. Lee and Phod
