Suddenly it's all autumnal, blustery and cool. Rain is threatened. The weatherman calls the conditions "unstable" and tells us that a depression is moving across the country, slowly losing its identity*...
I am taken for a walk up and around Millstone Hill, long a favourite.
I pose nicely on the 'pose nicely please' stone, allowing Gail a convenient pause to catch her breath half way up the ascent.
Higher up, I hear a rustle in the heather, and hurtle off to investigate.
But I am Nice Nobby these days (mostly, give or take the occasional dead snail incident) so I rush back when Gail calls, and claim my treat.
The panoramic view from the summit allows us a preview of showers heading our way.
The wind has lifted my ear flaps and it's time to hasten down.
There's a brief blue sky interlude before we get back to the car, but I sniff the air and sense more change on the way.
*Gail wonders if this a subtle commentary on the broader state of the UK...

ReplyDeleteWell, Nobby, I am glad you and Gail managed to get that walk completed before those showers drew close! Over this side, the tap in the sky has not been turned off for three days now... and as for the wind - I thought it was going to drive the raindrops through the glass last night. That is weather with 'personality'!!! Less wild today, thank goodness. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Very good posing, Nobby, and your recall is impressive.
ReplyDeleteI think UK lost its identity a long while ago . . .
You have the coolest rocks and stones and we love the sky in that last shot, Nobby. Your rainy weather has made it all the way to our house. We are getting way too much of the wet stuffs!
ReplyDeleteso happy you got that hike in before the rains came. awesome view of the rains on the way and love those flapping ears. i am wondering do you have wild critters in places like this, like hear we have bears and coyotes, critters that might attack you. would like to know what critters you have in your area
ReplyDeleteGail replies: compared to, say Florida, the Scottish countryside is fairly free of wild animals that might attack Nobby. Our largest mammal would be the red deer, a herbivore. No bears, wolves, coyotes, alligators etc. I do have one friend whose Labrador was bitten by an adder, our only venomous snake, but the dog fully recovered. The biggest danger to Nobby running around in the heather is probably that he might get Lyme disease from a tick bite, which is why I apply a tick treatment to him once a month in summer.
DeleteYAY you Nobby on coming when called after the escargot saga.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Gail will write about your good behavior on her next Nature Writing assignment. Thank you for posing nicely and for the gorgeous panoramic
photo. I will pass on your greetings to Ernie the Attorney and his handler.
Hugs cecilia
What a beautiful hike you and Gail went on, Nobby. It's always wise to come when called especially if treats are involved.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful hike full of changing weather!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Sunny and Rosy
Even as it turns cold it is beautiful there. I know you don't let the cold bother you
ReplyDeleteWow, rain threats or not, you live in a most impressively wonderful place!! Petcretary is envious!
ReplyDeleteWind under your ear flaps! What more could you wish for at ths top of a decent hill? Good thing the rain avoided you both.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Nobby, it's a wonder you didn't take off when the wind blew under your earflaps!
ReplyDeleteThose are some super photos and the scenery looks beautiful even with the grey skies.
Love,
Paca xx
Love the pictures, you live in a beautiful area!
ReplyDeleteGood to see you, Nobby! And what a beautiful place you live in. Glad you and Gail got a nice walk. It's getting cooler here in WNY too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful walk, no matter the weather! (Our mom is headed to the UK in a few weeks and wondered about what kind of weather she will encounter! So you gave her a preview!) Getting a little cooler here, but Indian Summer is supposed to come next week, darn it if one is a husky!
ReplyDeleteRosie and Redford
Hey R and R, where in the UK is your mom heading? Could she pop in to see us in Aberdeen? (It is 500 miles north of London...)
DeleteLondon, Oxford and Dorset! A little far to come see you but someday soon Mom wants to hike in Scotland! But she will not have any huskies with her, so what's the fun in that?!
