Peak District perambulations

Greetings from a most agreeable AirBnB in the Derbyshire Peak District, where Gail, her friend Janet and myself have been enjoying a lovely three day 'mini-break' exploring territory where Gail broke in her first pair of hiking boots when walking with her parents over half a century ago.

Yesterday we had a grand old tramp around Monsal Dale, starting out across the viaduct and along the old railway track (now a walking and cycling route).

Gail's brother (two years older than her) has apparently completed the 5 km 'Parkrun' along this trail in just over 21 minutes, but Gail and Janet seemed less than enthusiastic when I indicated we might try to beat his time.

It seems they would rather look at the wayside flowers and the railway cutting geology.

We walked back along a track, passing by fields edged with dry stone walls, and Gail seemed happy to have returned to a part of the country she has loved since childhood.

I thought it was pretty nice too.

Happy Nature Friday friends! And once again a big thank you to our friends the LLB Gang for hosting the blog hop. Do please go and visit all the others.

  1. It's good to revisit places we have loved and the weather, always a subject for discussion, seems to have been favourable. Nice for you, Nobby, to see somewhere different, too.

    1. Gail says: the weather was not favourable every day. On Tuesday in Lathkill Dale we encountered monsoon conditions ...

  2. It looks like a great place to break on your first pair of walking boots. F can't recall which bit of her homeland has that link - it would have been a steep forested bit - feral by comparison with your lovely trail.

  6. Life is to short to run past all that beauty in 21 minutes. You are doing the scenic walk and feeling the nature vibes and then sharing them with us. Beau and I take 20 minutes to walk 1/2 mile/.8 K... you would leave us in the dust. without Beau I could walk a little faster but could not keep up with all of you.

  7. What a thill it would be to walk across the viaduct...amazing views.
Nobby you find the most beautiful scenery for your walks no matter what country you are visiting. I agree no running thru that dark tunnel.
Hugs and thank you for sharing.

  11. Such beautiful photos! I'm so glad you had such a good time, Nobby. We have some rolling hills and lots of geological history here in WNY too. It's been a while since I've gone on any hikes, though.
