A different relationship to gravity...

Another special post today, combining the LLB Gang's Nature Friday blog hop with our friend YAM-aunty's Final Friday Feature.

A Young Dog Ascends Beinn Alligin, 22 July, 2023

Nobby, do you have springs for paw pads?
Did Oscar Pistorius
Lend you his blades?
Or is there perhaps,
Hidden in those wiry haunches,
A micro-motor stolen from
A cheating rider in the Tour de France?

Maybe you made a secret pact,
With Isaac Newton, thus to counteract,
The laws of gravity?

I cannot otherwise explain,
How you dance up
Our steepest Scottish peaks
With such apparent ease and grace.
So light of foot,
A wonder to behold,
While I clomp slowly, far behind,
Feeling rather old.

Well, Nobby - Gail has asked excellent questions of you here. That little video clip just proves what her words say - you seem not to notice the pull of the earth at all. Something we humans struggle with even at the fittest of times! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. Well, Nobby, as fellow dogs, we can say that it is a dog thing. Some are better at it than others and being young also makes things easier. Enjoy your bouncing around.

  4. ooh now that is real countryside to take a walk in Nobby - do you shout encouragement to Gail from up there? paw smacks Mr B (F tells me a tale of her first walk up a mountain in NZ aged about 12. A lump of land near Queenstown called - because they stole the name - Ben Lomond. F, her Dad, her 9 year old bro and 6 year old sister. At the start near town a cat appeared, sidled around them then disappeared. It reappeared later further up the hill, and continued to reappear all the way to the top - providing encouragement each time it did so for the younger trampers in the group to keep walking. She wonders how many times a week the cat made that same trek.)

  9. It was very nice to see you going ahead and encouraging Gail. You are very fleet of foot. I like the poem, too. You see, you are quite an inspiration, Nobby.

  10. HOW indeed Nobby. Maybe you are part mountain goat, and I mean this in the most complimentary way. I do admire their agility.
I loved how you, at least, stopped to 'look' for Gail. Your center of gravity is much lower than Gail's, you can see the ground and any obstacles. I was not paying attention to the ground when I stepped on uneven ground. It gave my right knee a twist.
    Hugs and happy weekend
    Cecilia

  13. We are in awe of your bravery Nobby. Although, with scenery like that, who could blame you for wanting to get to the highest point to really appreciate the views!
