Quiz time!

Quizmaster Nobby

Greeting friends! Today we have something a little different - a Nature Friday quiz just for you.

All you have to do is look at the eight tree photos below, all taken by Gail in the past month, and decide which you think is the odd one out. Please leave your answers (preferably with workings - feel free to be creative) in the comments box.

N.B. There is only one 'official' answer, but there might be more than one correct answer!

PS Thank you once again to our LLB Gang friends for hosting this blog. Our thoughts are with them right now as they prepare to say a final fond goodbye to their faithful pack member, dear old Jakey.

  3. the odd man out is the first one, the roots come down to the ground and spreadm the others have roots underground. here we call that tree banyon or strangler fig tree

  4. We have to guess the Bamboo -picture#3- as we have only ever seen them in Asian countries.

Well, Nobby, you can't fool me (or Molly, it seems) - #3 is bamboo and therefore not a tree! Not because of country, though, as bamboo grows pretty much wherever it is planted and I can tell that these are likely to have been taken on Gail's trip to Cuba... unless, of course, we need to talk about picture #5, which is clearly taken in this Bonny Land!

Oh what a fun FEATURE you gave us today, Nobby (hint, hint!) Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  6. I agree that no. 3, bamboo, is an odd one out, as it is a grass not a tree. I also agree that no. 5 is a bit of an outlier, as it has no greenery (of its own).

  7. Nobby I think #5 and 7 I think were taken in in Europe.
I think all of the remaining ones were taken during Gail's abandonment of YOU.
AT least she didn't take 8 different photos of K9's.
What a great Nature Friday Post

  8. We think the fifth picture (not counting yours) is the odd one out. There doesn't appear to be any tropical plants around it and the stone wall looks like the kind often seen in your country. We believe all the other pictures of trees were taken in Cuba.

  9. Well Nobby, we reckon, like everyone else, that there are three possible contenders for odd one out! No 1, Banyan tree - because of the root system, no 3 - bamboo isn't a tree, and no 5 is definitely European and not tropical. On the other hand we could be totally wrong!

    1. Gail says that's no excuse. She has two Master's degrees AND a PhD, and still takes part in her local pub quiz (as the least valuable member of her team, to be perfectly honest...) The photo of Nobby above was taken when he was supervising the most recent Quiz Night!

  12. Bamboo isn't technically a tree, but a type of grass. That's my guess.

  13. First of all, we wish you a happy belated birthday Nobby! Second - Lady is terrible with tree names, but would say the correct answer is trees that don't grow in the woods behind our house - so foreign trees. Lee and Phod
