Winter questions

Just a couple of things today.

First, a question about winter etiquette.

I am right, aren't I, that one is not expected to obey the command "Come Nobby!" when there is a covering of snow on the ground?

And particularly so if one has found a new Golden Retriever playmate in the woods.

Then there's the issue of my crate. Gail is worried that it is now too small as when I am in the 'sit' position my head touches the roof, and I cannot stretch out my long legs fully. But I like to sleep in there, all curled up and snug, especially now that Gail has draped a blanket over the crate for added cosiness. I'm sure you'll agree there is no need for any changes to my night-time sleeping arrangements, just 'cos I'm a Big Boy now.

  1. Nobby, you're hoping to prove that you're a good boy all the time, but ignoring Gail's commands won't help the naughty name being dropped. Just 'cos you've found a new friend doesn't mean you should misbehave.
You've certainly grown to fit your crate. Personally I prefer to sleep on a nice soft bed during the day and in a proper dog bed in Carol's bedroom overnight. But of course I'm an old lady and like my home comforts.

  2. As long as you only sleep there and don't have to stay locked up while Gail is away, it is perfect for sleeping. we have noticed how quickly you are growing taller and taller. what fun to find a golden in the snow... not nice to ignore your commands butt we all know you are still very young

Well, Nobby, it's like this... basic behaviours are not to be altered no matter what the weather. If all the cars on the road ignored the stop or go commands just because the snows turned white there would be chaos. Chaos, I tells ya. In fact, in winter weather those commands become extra important. You have to take into account the risk to Gail's limbs should you force her to move faster than is sensible in such condtions. Damaged limbs on hyoomons can result in walking restrictions for pupsters... jus' sayin'...

As for your crate - nothing better than a wee cosy den to dig into on wintry nights. Trust me, I know this! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  4. Oh Nobby I think finding a new golden friend to traipse about in the snow is da best news. Now as far as obeying...it is most impawtant to always acknowledge Gail's voice...so be sure to stop turn and let her know and never ever NO never get out of her eye sight.
A cozy snuggle bed is impawtant. If all you do is sleep in that I say it is fine

  5. It's important to have friends, Nobby, but you gotta listen to Gail when she calls. If you're happy with your sleeping arrangements than we are too!

  6. You looked like you were having fun with your new friend, Nobby, but we think it's wiser to obey your mom's commands, especially this time of year. You don't want to get on the naughty list, do you? We think if you are comfortable in your crate then that's just fine. Of course, a slightly taller crate might be even more comfortable for you, too.

  7. Well Nobby....it may be a good idea to obey Gail's commands....at least for the next couple of weeks until Santa arrives. Then again, you are also super duper cute too...so he'll probably overlook any naughtiness!

PeeEss...Mama got me a new bigger crate for my "surgery jail time" and I didn't like it AT ALL...I enjoy my snuggly smaller crate!

  8. On the issue of crate size, I may be the only one to suggest a larger crate, IF you will be using the crate for a least another year/half year. Once you gain some independence (i.e., mature a bit), this crate should be just fine, if Gail leaves the door open for you to come and go, as you please. That might not be for a while, though....

  9. Looks like you had a great time playing in the snow with your new friend. But sooner or later it's time to go back home. As for crates: we have a crate. It's been stored in the shed since the early 90's. Needless to say, none of our doggies were ever happy in a crate. But if you like it, Nobby, maybe your humans might maybe get one a bit larger so you can stretch out in it.

  10. I certainly understand you not wanting to but you should always come when called

  11. Nobby you aren't old enough to pretend to be deaf so maybe you should at least stop and let the human catch up. They only have two legs and higher centre of gravity so they are a bit unstable on slippy stuff. Cosy places to curl up are essential right now. I have an 'igloo' which is a kind of foam crate I guess. Paw smacks Mr T
