Silver furs around the muzzle

On Monday morning I found myself standing by the harbour in the Scottish east coast town of Arbroath, c.50 miles south of Aberdeen. Apparently we were waiting to meet Gail's friends, Molly and Steve, whom she's known since all three were all students at the University of Bristol, back in the Dark Ages. Steve's younger son now attends nearby St Andrews University and Molly's two adorable grandchildren live in Arbroath.

To help me spot her friends, Gail supplied this photo from c.1982.

I'm pleased to report that they are both still quite recognisable and in good shape, although Steve, like the best sort of senior dog, seems to have grown grey silver furs around the muzzle (to see them, you might have to biggify the picture below) and the red on Molly's head is now mostly due to her choice of hat (which I stole when we were on the beach, and was somewhat reluctant to return...)

After a nice walk, the three old friends went into a harbour-side restaurant for lunch and I was left in the car to speculate on what they were talking about for so long...

Well, Nobby, meeting up with old mates can go one of two ways - a short and sweet "hi, wasn't it fun? Ta for the mems"... or a long and lingering "such great memories, but oh those sad times too and what's happening now and...oh is it time to go already???" I am suspecting from your last line complaint that Gail and pals may have undulged in the latter! I am glad - and also for you that you got to sniff some new peeps and places because of it. I wonder if there was a Smokie involved in that lunch...? Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. Steve's wife had asked him to buy some smokies while in Arbroath. He was a bit taken aback when the park of six he purchased from a wee shop near the harbour set him back £36....

  4. Molly and Steve have aged wonderfully and I think that I would have a hard time returning Molly's hat too, Nobby!

  5. Nobby, it's too bad that you weren't included in the lunch party. Who knows what little snippets of interest you missed out on. Something to blackmail Gail with when you feel a bit miffed with her!
It's fun to catch up with old friends, but these days my human does it by email because she's still in touch with old friends who live in the UK. She says it's good to see photos of them and know that they have aged just the same as she has!
I wonder if Gail could knit you a nice sweater the same as Molly's fabulous hat?
We'd like to thank you for your kind words on Angus' blog. As you can see, I'm still here. My human has been talking to the vet's receptionist and is waiting for a phone call from her. He may call in to see me on his way home, because he wants to assess how I am.
    Love,
    Inca xx

    1. Dear friend Inca, it seems you have a caring vet, and you are fortunate that between him and your human, you can rely on them to take the best decisions for you. But old age is tough...
Sending hugs from Gail and fondest licks from Nobby.

  6. Nobby OMDs what a fine day Gail had for meeting friends and you for making new friends. BOL BOL Oh yes I too have silver locks mingled with my dark brown. It almost looks like it was professionally frosted (a salon term from the 1960's aka the Dark Ages). There is a story that goes with this that I might need to consider posting some time. You borrowed Molly's hat :-)!!

  7. How fun for you and Gail to meet up with her old friends. Too bad you couldn't join them for the lunch break though.

  8. F's mind immediately went to Smokies, then to 'maybe not' when the price was mentioned. Sitting in the car isn't always a bad thing - you own the car and can ensure no strangers interfere with it. I feel nice and safe in the car if my humans are tackling weird stuff. Paw smacks Mr T

  9. Our Pawppy hhas those silvery furs around his muzzle and noggin too. Must be a hard earned badge of honour because so many peeps of a particular vintage have earned them!

Petcretary must not...(have earned any merit of being ancient), being of the same vintage as pawppy, her noggin coverings are still the same as eons ago...maybe a shade darker, even, BOL!

Glad Gail had a nice reunion of sorts.
We bet you figured that hat was a new stuffie for you!
