Another awesome adventure!

You know, there are many things to criticise* about my human, but I will say one thing for her. If the weather is nice and she has no urgent appointments, she's always happy to leave the boring chores behind and take me out for another adventure.

We have lately been enjoying a run of lovely warm (but not too warm) sunny weather here in NE Scotland. Gail tells me this is unusual and one is duty bound to make the most of it.

So it was that on Monday we drove out to Ballater, where we met up with Gail's friend Henry and went for a long walk up Pannanich Hill.  Henry lives in Perth, Western Australia but normally comes 'home' to Scotland once a year. But due to you-know-what this the first time he's been out of WA for three years.

The heather-clad hills couldn't have been looking more glorious.

At the summit we met a father and son mountain biking team.

It seems to me the son had the better deal...

Father Jamie took this photo of Gail, Henry and me.

Why would you look at the camera when there might be treats left in Gail's little backpack...

Despite all the dry weather I of course managed to locate a muddy ditch as we descended through the woods.

And so before we reached the car park I was 'encouraged' to go for a paddle in the river Dee.

Apparently I caused a bit of alarm when I decided to strike out into midstream and take a wee swim, and (according to Gail) looked for a moment to be in danger of being swept away by the current**.

*Nobby's says:  Criticisms include Gail's passion for cycling, her strict rules about treats, her insistence that my coat gets combed once a day..... need I go on?
** Gail says: fortunately, it has been so dry here lately that the river level is extremely low, perhaps the lowest I've seen it in the 23 years I've lived in Scotland.

Well, Nobby - those piccies of the heathered hills have a hue and ambiance that reminds me of pictures taken by my father 50+ years back. The Scotland of postcards and tablet boxes... How wonderfurs for you to have hiked those hills, met Henry and Jamie and his son and even had a rummage in the ditches on the way. Then to show off your waterskills too. Quite the all-round sportsdog you are turning out to be!!! (Shame that cycling doesn't figure in your repetoire...) Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. You always have the most fun adventures, Nobby, and the landscape is just gorgeous! The river looks very inviting and we're so happy that you made it back to shore safely.

  4. Nobby, you're lucky to have been born at just the right time! It's not often that Scotland has such agreeable weather when you can get out and about in ideal walking conditions and in beautiful scenery. Who can blame Gail for making the most of it?
I did wonder, looking at the photo, if you were in search of treats!
Just the usual 7 a.m. round the houses walk for us this morning, then back home to cool off. My human's computer tells us it's 33º C right now, but we're not sure if that's just the computer or outdoors! Oh - she's just been to check and it's 34ºC in the shade by the front door.

    Love,
    Inca xx

  5. Wow - that bounce in the first photo was captured perfectly - action shot. The purple heather and the scenery generally have made my human look cheerful, and as for that muddy ditch Nobby - you did that on purpose didn't you? Just so that you could swim in the river as well - right? Gail is not up for swimming then?

  6. NOBBY OMDs what gorgeous vistas you have for us today. I love the heather and all the rolling hills.
WOW I know Henry was glad to be back for a visit. It must have taken him 87 hours to fly from W.A. to Scotland.
I thought my eyes ere deceiving me when I saw father and son what looked like a tether line.
Bryan will 100% enjoy your trekk into the mud. Amazing how you find it even though it is dry. Your wee paddle in the water was an adventure.

  8. wow, just looked up and saw the distance from WA to AS. wow, you could not have had a more perfect day. the sunshine and that stunning vista to run and jump and mud dip. I did burst out laughing when the MUD show came up. I have an idea, F takes Tigger every where she goes and has a donkey, or bag or basket for Tigger. why can't Gail put a box/basket/container on handle bars OR back of bike and you could enjoy those outings also.. you have had a lot of adventures lately, keep them coming.. we watched a movie this past week filmed in Scotland and I must say it was beautiful, but not as beautiful as what you went to

  10. What a great adventure you had, Nobby. Those views are just spectacular. Maybe Gail should use an extra-long walking string on you when you go for a paddle in the river just to make sure she can real you back in if necessary.

    1. Gail says: Thank you, that is an excellent idea. (Nobby is the first dog I've had who seems to quite like swimming, so it's not something I'm accustomed to dealing with!)

  12. That was a wonderful adventure, Nobby. And thankfully, you found that water so as to avoid the B.A.T.H. torture at home:)

  13. What glorious weather - and mountains too. The sunshine has been lovely in France and now in Wales (back today!) but it is worrying too - the dry rivers, the melting glaciers... I've been shocked by some of the conditions in the Alps. And Osky was just HOT!!!
