A Nature Friday Miscellany

So the week began with sunshine and a walk around Hazlehead golf course with John and Françoise.

And with Gail asking if we should enter this photo in a 'rear of the year' contest.

Midweek there was a pretty sunset in the skies above our street.

In Duthie Park the mahonia is just now coming into flower.

So far so predictable.

But who could have anticipated a Thursday morning invasion by a stack of cardboard tortoises from La Bretagne....?

What??!

PS from Gail: thank you so much to Phenny, Nelly, Katty and Mark for sending us this delightful 3D card. Rest assured it was rescued from Nobby's paws before any damage was done...

Happy Nature Friday all!

  4. Nobby the sunset is magnificent and I do love that mahonia. I tried making jam from the berries on ours one year (someone told me it has a common name 'Oregon Grapes.) The jam was unimpressive. No, I lie, it had one impressively outstanding property - it ability to make lasting stains. The wood of the plant is also impressively yellow. Big hugs to Gail.

    1. Gail recalls seeing a lot of 'Oregon grapes' in their native habitat in the forest of Washington State last Christmas.

  9. It's interesting that Nobby spends a lot of time observing the new card, before his snout investigates. Very cool card!

  12. Such delightful walks you're having, Nobby. The mahonia is splendid and such a clever tortoise card. Hands down (probably not the right metaphor) you would win the rear of the year contest!

  13. You do have such lovely walks---and all the friends helping is the best! You ---and Gail---are so lucky to have such support! Is it chilly there? Here it is SO hot that it is making us huskies and our Mom very unhappy. But your picture of your butt made our mom smile!
